Following Our Leader

As Christians [ followers of Jesus ] we must walk the way He walked while here on earth. We are going to look at a few Scripture verses that tell us how we should follow the footsteps of Jesus.

Col. 1:3.3 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

1/ verse 1– seek spiritual things from above.

2/ verse 2– set your affection on spiritual things from above, not worldly things. When we love worldly things, they may become idols.

3/ verse 3 — we are dead to earthly things; we have new life in Christ!

4/ verse 4 — one day we will appear with Christ in Glory!

5/ verses 5-9  we have a list of the worldly, sinful things we must avoid and not be a part of.

6/ verses 10-13 we have a list of things that are to become our nature as the new man. Things like love, mercy, joy, peace, meekness, humility all the fruit of the spirit. We are to forgive and forget and live in peace with mankind!
