Old Hymns

Wint68's Blog

I love looking through hymn books and reading the great hymns of the past and pray that they will be continued to be sung in the present and future. I came across this hymn titled” Now Thank We all Our God” and two verses go as follows:
Oh may the bounteous God
through all our life be near us,
with ever joyful hearts
and blessed peace to cheer us,
and keep us in His grace,
and guide us when perplexed,
and free us from all ills
in this world and next.

All praise and thanks to God
the Father now be given,
the Son, and Him who reigns
with them in highest heaven,
the one eternal God,
whom heaven and earth adore;
for thus it was, and is now,
and shall be for evermore.

TOPIC: DIVISIONS:

*FORBIDDEN IN THE CHURCH   1 Cor.1:10 Now I beseech you,[ brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you;] but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

*CONDEMNED IN THE CHURCH    1 COR. 1:11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?; 11:Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. [ WE ARE JOINED IN CHRIST AND LET NO ONE OR MORE THAN ONE DIVIDE US FROM THE LOVE AND TRUTH OF CHRIST! ]UN

*UNBECOMING IN THE CHURCH      1 COR.12:24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked.25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

DIV TO THEISIONS ARE CONTRARY TO THE:

*THE UNITY OF CHRIST

1 COR.1:13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?; 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

*DESIRES OF CHRIST

JOHN 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.  [ HIS DESIRE THAT WE ALL BE A UNIT OF UNITY ]

*PURPOSE OF CHRIST

JOHN 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

*SPIRIT OF THE CHURCH:

1 COR.11:16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.    [ THE SPIRIT OF THE CHURCH IS UNITY IN CHRIST!].

DIVISIONS ARE PROOF OF A CARNAL CHURCH

1 COR.3:For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

*AVOID THOSE WHO CAUSE DIVISIONS

ROMANS 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

Favorite Bible Chapters!

This morning one of my readings was Psalms 3 which seemed to speak to me and I decided to share it!

Psalm 3 King James Version (KJV)

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.

Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.

But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.

I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.

Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.

Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

I trust this chapter blesses you too!

TOPIC: Separation  —— As believers we must separate ourselves from certain people and things. When we became redeemed by the blood of the Lamb we separate ourself from the old man or old nature. According to the following Bible verses we are to separate from the following:

*Lev.15:31 Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is among them.

*Ezra 6:21 And the children of Israel, which were come again out of captivity, and all such as had separated themselves unto them from the filthiness of the heathen of the land, to seek the Lord God of Israel, did eat,

*Numbers 6:He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.

*Proverbs 16:28 A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.

*Proverbs 17:He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.  [ We must not gossip! ]

*Luke 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.  [ We must separate from false teachers! ]

*Jude 19.  These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. [ We must separate from those who are trying to cause separations in the church! ]

A JULY DAY

100_7378 (1)

It is a nice sunny day,

this first day of July,

the soft gentle breeze,

blows the many flowers,

and moving to and fro,

the green branches on the trees.

High in the breezy skies,

I see two eagles soar and fly;

On this July day,

here in Canada we name,

name this special day, Canada Day;

Our Countries founding day.

As I watch and I see,

precious birds and butterflies,

fly so beautifully bye me;

I feel the sunshine,

so golden on the hills,

and I look at the lillies,

daisies,buttercups and daffodils.

July we welcome you,

your warm and sunny skies,

and enjoying the fireflies,

as they glow through the night;

I say my prayers and say good night,

and close my sleepy eyes.

TOPIC: FULNESS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Scripture:

Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

The word filled here means to have a constant flow of the Spirit is continually flowing therefore being always full of the Holy Spirit. When a believer is filled by the Spirit, with the Spirit, they are walking in the Spirits way; talking the Spirits words and have understanding of the things of God.

Illustration: We are filled with the Spirit when we confess our sins.

1John 1:If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We are filled by the Holy Spirit when we yield to Him. Romans 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

We can be filled if we have desire and prayer.  Matt.5:Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Every Christian should be filled with the Holy Spirit to give them power to serve HIM. Acts 1: 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

First Ref. Ex.35:31 And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship;

Let us close with these two Scripture verses: Eph.5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;   1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
To do God’s work we need to be constantly filled with the Holy Spirit!
