EXPLORING GOD’S WORD [29]

Today we are opening the Scriptures to a few verses and see what they say about His followers becoming like HIM. As we search the Scriptures we see that there is only one way for us to get to Heaven. That way is by faith alone, in Christ alone, there are no back doors into Heaven; Christ is the only door into Heaven’s glory. As His followers, the closer we walk with HIM, the closer we get to being more like HIM. Below are a few Bible verses I want to share with you and I trust you will be blessed.

* Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

*1 Cor.6: Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. [ as we walk close to Him we are sanctified or set apart from the world].

*Romans 5: 1/Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;And patience, experience; and experience, hope:And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

*2 Cor.1: 21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; 22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

*1 Peter 3:Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:  [ May we be steadfast in our close walk with Jesus and as we walk with Him we will be more like Him].

The words my sheep are special words referring to God’s chosen people. Let’s look at a few verses in the book of John which speak about the sheep and their relationship with CHRIST.

John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and [know my sheep], and am known of mine.

John 10:26 But ye [believe not, because ye are not of my sheep], as I said unto you.

27 [My sheep hear my voice], and I know them, and they follow me:     note:[His sheep follow Him]

John 21:16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. God as POTTER:   Isaiah 64:But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

God’s people as THE CLAY:  2 Cor.4: But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

11 For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

God’s LOVE AND OTHERS: 1 John 4: 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

THE SPIRIT AND THE LETTER OF THE LAW:

1/ 1 Samuel 16:22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let [David,] I pray thee, stand before me; for he [hath found favour in my sight.]

2/ Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. [ God loves a sincere and loving heart.]

3/ Hosea 6:For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. [There are things that can not be provided by the law]

4/ Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

6/ Galatians 2:16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. 3: This only would I learn of you: Did ye receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Are ye so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Have ye suffered so many things in vain — if it be yet in vain?

He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit and worketh miracles among you, doeth He it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 6:Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Some say or maybe most may say that today’s culture is that we stand up for ourselves and demand our rights no matter who is stepped on or over. The teaching of Jesus and writers in the New Testament is that joy comes from humility and sacrificing of ourselves for others.

Matthew 16: 24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
